Phlux joins the European Photonics Industry Consortium to collaborate in the sustainable development of photonic technologies

Sheffield, UK,13th February 2024: Phlux Technology, a manufacturer of avalanche photodiode (APD) infrared sensors, has announced that it has become a member of EPIC, the European Photonics Industry Consortium. EPIC has over 800 members and facilitates close cooperation in technical and commercial development for photonics businesses.

Phlux announced its first products, the Aura family of 1550 nm APDs, in January 2024 and it already enjoying commercial success based on the benefits delivered by the company’s Noiseless InGaAs® APD technology. With 12X the sensitivity of other best-in-class InGaAs APDs, these sensors are used in LiDAR, laser rangefinder, and optical fibre test equipment applications. Here they extend operating range by up to 50% while cutting size, cost, and complexity of systems.

Commenting on the importance of EPIC membership, Phlux CEO, Ben White, said, “The opportunities to contribute to sustainable development of photonics technology while networking with some of the world’s leading experts in the field, was too good to miss. 2024 looks like being another spectacular growth year for the photonics industry and we want to play our part in supporting professional organisations like EPIC and benefitting from the wealth of information they make available to members.”
